Ned Point Light - Mattapoisett, MA - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

The Ned Point Light is located in a park at the end of Ned's Point Road in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts. The Lighthouse was established in 1838. The original 1839 tower still stands. The stone tower is 39 feet tall and the height of the focal plane is 41 feet. A new octagonal Lantern and deck was installed in 1896. In 1923 the original stone keeper's house was loaded on a barge and moved to Wing's Neck Light. The light was deactivated from 1951 to 1963 after the land was sold to the town of Mattapoisett for use as a park. In 1962 the automated light was converted to a 6 second isophase, flashing 3 seconds on and 3 seconds off. The light is visible for 12 nautical miles.

According to some documentation I found, the present lantern room was installed in 1896. This may explain why a new survey was done.
