The Romans conquered the region of Provence and the Languedoc. They fortified the oppidum, which was named Carcaso.

The oldest traces of man (6th century. V. Chr.) Were found on the promontory, stands on the old town today fortified.
300 v. Chr. Subjugated the Volken-Tectosages the Iberians of Languedoc. 122 v. Chr. The Romans conquered the region of Provence and the Languedoc. They fortified the oppidum, which was named Carcaso. The Romans ruled the region from Carcassonne to the middle of the 5th century. N. Chr.
Then the Visigoths conquered Spain and the Languedoc.
The two towers on the inner wall are Gallo-Roman origin.
In the museum of the castle are exhibits of Gallo-Roman period. Be shown a coffin, pots, vases and milestones.
