The present Genesse County Courthouse was built over a period of two years, with cornerstone laid in 1841, and business commencing in 1843.
It is three stories in height, constructed in the Greek Revival style and made of locally-cut limestone.
It served as the main location for all business concerning the Holland Purchase lands, then comprising all of present-day western New York State.
Over the years other court buildings have been constructed nearby. However some court business, the County Manager, attorney and the meeting place for the county legislature.
It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
It has received several renovations over the years, most recently in 1999.
