This granite and limestone Memorial is located near stop 2 on the Alexander Bridge Road in the Chickamauga National Military Park. This is the most southern of the Regular Monuments.

18th United States Infantry, has this one monument on the Chickamauga Battlefield. Established with other US Regular Army Regiments in the Regular Brigade at Camp Thomas, Ohio July 1861. Participated in the Western Campaigns of the War as a part of the US XIV Army Corps Under MG George Thomas, MG John M. Palmer and MG Jefferson C. Davis.

Text on the front of the marker:

castle with Corps "Acorn" badge centered at the top.
Below the badge is an eagle, shield across the breast, wings spread, grasping oak branches.

Short Significance Description:

The marker contributes to the national significance of the park under NR Criterion A because it represents the national movement among veterans to commemorate Civil War battlefields. This was the first U.S. national military park.

Short Physical Description

9' x 6' x 10', the Vermont crystal granite monument has alternating rock-faced and smooth-faced portions. Shaft contains raised-letter panels and bas-relief coat of arms. Top is machicolated and features acorn in relief.
