Renassaince Bell tower, Kežmarok
Renaissance Bell tower in Kežmarok is located in the walled area of the parish church of the Holy Cross.
It is the oldest Renaissance campanile in Spiš region.
It’s one of most beautiful Slovak Renaissance monuments, built by local architect Ulrich Materer between years 1586 and 1591.
This little square building did not exceed the height level of its surroundings.
Clearly legible composition is characterized by strong horizontal subdivision of fields.
Overridden floor is smooth, with inlet.
Slightly sentinel floor rests on swirled consoles, on all four sides architecturally accented by arcade holes of biforium and triforium types.
The entire building is finished by gable attic.
Important role in overall composition plays a rich sgraffito, created by Hans Brechenzweig.
