Mysterious. When I was looking at this grave marker at the cemetery, I could not see any clearly-visible letters at all, although I could feel and barely see ORN (missing B) and DIED. These may be visible in one of my photos. It was not until I got home and looked at the photos that I could see what looks like J or F, P or B or R, and T rather clearly. Strange that I could not see them when I was there!
However, I think that these letters were actually etched on by a vandal. Why? (1) the perfectly horizontal (B)ORN and DIED immediately above the angled big letters (where one would expect dates or years), and (2) the fact that the big letters are not horizonal, but are angled as if a right-handed person stood there and etched them into the marker. It is possible that this is actually something like J+RT (or J+BT or J+PT), but the J+ also looks like an F.
There is no FindAGrave entry for this marker. But it is mentioned in the MOGenWeb rootsweb page as being F.P.T. The contributor says that it is next to a marker with O.D. on it, even though both their photos and mine show it to be C.D. rather clearly.
In any case, the grave marker that is the subject of this Waymark is probably not for anyone with any of the letters guessed at earlier. The layers of this rock have been splitting and breaking off for some time - some of it laying at the base of the rock, and other portions moved out of the way for mowing, and lost. It was probably originally something like:
Some Name
BORN DIED
18xx 18yy
The Name portion broke off completely over the years, and someone came along and scratched the angled letters over the birth and death years. The rootsweb contributor apparently did not notice the (B)ORN and DIED.
