Bootawa Dam is a holding reservoir/dam for the Great Lakes and Greater Taree areas (7,000 square km). Water is pumped from the Manning River above the tidal zone.

While the dam is not new, being built in the late 1960s, the water processing plant was upgraded in 2010 with the latest filtration system. The dam has a 2,000 megalitre capacity, and covers some 26 hectares, supplying 11 billion litres of drinkable water to the customers..
