Located within Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery is the grave of Veronica I. Olsen who lived to be 100 years of age. I was able to locate an obituary from Rootsweb.Ancestry.com (taken from the Modoc County Record in Alturas, CA), that reads:

Veronica McAndrews Olsen was born August 24, 1907, in Chamberlin, South Dakota, to Mary and Martin McAndrews, the youngest of eight children. Veronica passed away on Nov. 19, 2007 in Roundup, Montana where she had made her home since January 2004, with her daughter Cele and family.

At a very early age, Veronica's family relocated to Klamath Falls, Oregon, here she attended 12 years of school, graduating from the Sacred Heart Academy in 1925. She continued her education and received her teaching credential from Dominican College of San Rafael in 1930. Veronica's first years of teaching were in Southern California. In 1938 she moved North to teach on the Madeline Plains where she met her future husband, Rex Olsen. Rex and Veronica were married in May 1940 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alturas and made their home in Madeline for the next fifty years raising five children.

Veronica taught in all the schools on the Plains and in Ash Valley. She also taught at Cresent City, Horse Creek, Lake City, Canby, and retired from Alturas Elementary in 1973.

Veronica enjoyed reading, mainly murder mysteries. She belonged to the AAUW attending meetings regularly. Through the years, she was a regular member of Scared Heart Church, bringing all five children in their Sunday Best. In later years, she was a member of the Altar Society. Veronica belonged to the Madeline Plains Hobby Club, sharing her gardening and reading skills with the other local girls and women. When Veronica was in her seventies, she spent a few years in Santa Barbara at the McAndrews home caring for and visiting with her older sisters. Her heart, however, was still on the Madeline Plains. When Veronica first went to Maddeline in 1938, someone told her, "You must really hate yourself!". But, she loved the Plains and her home up on the hill.

Rex her husband and Andy her son preceded her in death. Survivors include Marty (Blanch) Olsen, Alturas, CA; Mary (Jim) Kamai, Pearl City, HI; Sally Olsen, Santa Barbara, CA; and Cele (Wayne) Anderson, Roundup, MT; five granddaughters, and nine great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to your local 4-H Club of Fire Dept.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial service will take place a later date in Klamath Falls, Oregaon. Wier Funeral Home of Roundup, MT is charge of the arrangements.
