Bright Angel Campground is located close to the Colorado River, in Bright Angel Canyon - basically, it's at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. This campground is accessible by hiking the Bright Angel Trail or the South Kaibab Trail from the South Rim, or by hiking the North Kaibab Trail from the North Rim. Pack mules and horses also carry people down. Duffell service by mule is also available.
The campground sits on the banks of Bright Angel Creek, a year-round source of water in this part of the Grand Canyon. The campground is shaded by a grove of cottonwoods planted by the National Park Service and kept safe from marauding beavers.
Water is available for hikers. Bathrooms with flush toilets are provided. Campsites feature a picnic table, a stand on which to hang backpacks, and two ammo cans to place food and other tempting items away from animals. Rodents and ringtail cats can be a problem here! Fires are not permitted anywhere in Grand Canyon National Park. A ranger station is nearby as is Phantom Ranch. Visitors to this part of the Canyon are welcome to partake of refreshments at the Phantom Ranch canteen.
Permits cost $10 plus $5 per person per night camped below the rim. More information is available from the Backcountry Office at Grand Canyon National Park.
