This memorial is located in front of the Roman Catholic church of Todtnau.
It is a large granite boulder with a bronze relief and the text:
"Dem verdienstvollen Priester Freund und Berater
dem Erbauer dieser Kirche
Julius Scherer 1875-1908
die dankbare Pfarrei"

Julius Scherer was priest in Todtnau, when the disastrous fire destroyed a major part of town and also the church in 1876. Julius Scherer was very active in organizing the construction of a new church, that could finally be inaugurated in 1888.
The years on the plaque are not the dates of birth and death, but most probably the dates of his terms of office. Another source states that he lived from 1839 until 1902, which is more probable for the date of birth, but not the date of death, I think the inscription on the memorial is more reliable.
