For over 350 years, is located in front of the Old City walls, the Capuchin monastery, whose land once handed down to the banks of the Aare. After 1868 canceled the western part of the Zielempschlosses and a passage was created by the ring wall, the Capuchins were in 1876 committed by the Solothurn government to cede some of their garden, so a road link between the Old Bridge and planned by the Swiss Central Railway new bridge created could be. In the new monastery wall, a fountain was added in 1892.
