In 1874 the city decided Olten to lay lines to new sources discovered in cheeks and set up 15 new public wells, four on the left and eleven on the right Aareseite. Architect Arnold von Arx designed several models of fountains and their sticks. One of those days resulting work is the Kaplaneibrunnen. He was aufgestelt 1876, as the gardens located there was demolished and turned into a public square. Prior to 1873 E. Brosi was divorced last Kaplan from his office and the parsonage was sold to Gottlieb Wirz. 1980 Kaplaneiplatz was redesigned paved and; thereby also the fountain was renovated by Paul Nünlist.
