Located at the front entrance to the Joe Crowley Student Union are two bronze plaques dedicating the building in 2007. The first plaque reads:

Joe Crowley
Student Union

Dedicated November 2007

Joe Crowley served as president of the University of Nevada, Reno from 1978 to 2000, a period of tremendous growth and evolution for the University and the state. Along the way, Joe took special care to involve and engage in shaping the vibrancy of the campus. He was steadfast in his commitment to the role of student government, to the principle of freedom of speech, and to the University's land-grant mission to serve Nevada.

The second plaque reads:
