The sign on this building is in Spanish and English. The English portion reads:
"Canobbio's
Arcade
The imposing arcade structure that anchors the west end of La
Plazuela Machado is one of Mazatlan's oldest buildings. Known
as out time as Portal de la Lonja, it originally had only one story
and housed a thriving business.
The two-story building we see today is the result of an
extensive remodeling done in 1864 by Juan Mondini under the orders of owner Teresa Osuna.
At the end of the 19th century, the Canobbio family
established under their namea drug store on the bottom level of
the building. It has been known by that name ever since.
The Machado Museum, opened in 1999, currently occupies
the entire second floor of Los Portales and recreates the lifestyle
of a prosperous 19th century family in Mazatlan."
