The Sussex Inlet Marine Rescue is based near the outlet for the large water body, St. Georges Basin.

The Marine Rescue's operational area is from Cape St. George in the North to Bendalong Point in the South & 7 nautical miles to sea, the water bodies of St Georges Basin, Sussex Inlet and Swan Lake.
The Marine Rescue has two patrol boats:
A Category 1 Stabi Craft, crew of 2 to 3 built 2004, 5.95m in length & powered by a 115hp Evinrude Outboard.
A Category 2 Jet, crew 3 to 4 built 2005, 8.5m in length & powered by a 380hp Cummins/Hamilton inboard motor.
Both craft were present with the Category 1 out of the water via its boat lift.
The building housing the staff was purpose built & opened in 2009.
