This imposing Christian Cross was placed by the side of EN 125, not far from the entrance to Faro, as a homage to father José Gomes da Encaranação who died on this spot, probably in a car accident. It's unnoticed by most of the people driving by as it's a bit far from the edge of the road and the location is clearly neglected.
