In a small village Tismice near town Ceský Brod you can find a real gem of the Romanesque architecture - uniquely preserved three-nave Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary from 12th century. Tismice's Basilica together with churches in Jakub and Vinec ranks among the most valuable examples of preserved Romanesque ecclesiastical architecture in Bohemia.
The Tismice's church is three-nave basilica, built in late 12th century. We can find here three apses and two Romanesque forefront steeples with Baroque roofs. Basilica naves are separated by alternately by pillars and round Ramanesque columns. The basilica was built from light-brown sandstone, which colour changes into several red tones. Original narrow Romanesque windows were broadened into present appearance in 1755. The main nave is vaulted, side naves have flat ceiling. The biggest artistic treasury inside Basilica is the Gothic Madonna statue from 1420 on the main altar.
