This lamp post was dedicated to the memory of one time mayor and fire chief of Anaconda, Julius Albert Hasley and his wife Cora Belle O'Neal Hasley.

Julius was born July 1st, 1862 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passing away Jun. 16, 1934 in Anaconda. He left Milwaukee in 1885 as a plumber, eventually ending up in Anaconda, Montana in 1888. He eventually became mayor and fire chief of Anaconda. While living at 416 Main Street, Julius "Jud" served as mayor from 1917 to 1919. Their house at 416 Main remains, standing immediately south of the Junior High School.

Cora Belle O'Neal Hasley was born in 1870 in Laclede, Linn County Missouri, passing away on July 4, 1949 in Missoula Montana. Her parents, William & Sophia Carlson O'Neal, were both born in Ireland. On August 29, 1888 she and Julius were married in Butte, MT. Cora and Julius had two children, Edith Merze Hasley Fitzgerald (1890 - 1982) and William Albert Hasley (1896 - 1976). All four are both interred at Anaconda's Lower Hill Cemetery.

The photo below, from the University of Montana, Missoula, Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library Digital Collections, was taken in November of 1886. It shows Julius with a penny-farthing bicycle that he once rode from Denver to Helena.

The plaque:
