The tunnel can be reached by hiking the Quitaque Canyon Trail. This area is one of the most picturesque and interesting throughout the entire trailway due in part to Clarity Tunnel at mile marker 12. Every evening from April to October, this area becomes a prime spot to watch more than 50,000 Mexican free-tailed bats flying into the air in search of their insect dinner. Bring a flashlight if you are going into the tunnel.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department offers guided tours to the tunnel during peak bat watching seasons. Contact the park for more information and reservations (806) 455-1492.
