Birth records indicate a church on this site in 1830, and a stone on the front plinth indicates that it was a Wesleyan Methodist Church.
It is possible this church building was in use until 1991, when the Methodist Church joined with the United Reformed Church to form Christchurch. That building is further south along the high street.
