The first meeting house, a cottage fitted out for worship was bought in 1802 but was found to be entirely unsuitable due to the large numbers trying to attend services, so a new meeting house was erected in 1803. This proved suitable for many years but eventually it proved too small and a new chapel, school house, and a minister's house were built in 1864.
The foundation/memorial stone is under the west window and states:-
THE MEMORIAL STONE
OF THIS CONGREGATIONAL CHAPEL
WAS LAID BY ISAAC PERRY ESQ.
. JULY 19th 1864 .
The church affiliated to the United Reformed Church in October 1972, but seceded in May 1983, when it rejoined the Congregational Federation.
