Although people usually refer to the place as Island of Culatra, it's not really an island, more like an islet and anyway, the same geographical unit is named Island of Faro in its westernmost end.
There are ferries departing from Faro and from Olhão, more frequently during the Summer, but still all year long.
Culatra is a small fishing village which gets a fair number of visitors during the season pick, thanks to its splendid beaches.
