In Respectful Memory of Those Delawareans who have receivedThe Congressional Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of live above and beyond the call of duty.
____________________ The Medal of Honor is the highest award that can be received by a member of the armed forces of the United States of America. It is given by the President in the name of Congress to individuals who, while serving in the armed forces, distinguished themselves for conspicuous gallantry and selfless bravery in action "at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty." Established during the Civil War, the Medal of Honor has since been awarded to persons of every rank, every branch of service, from every background in life and from every state in the nation. As a symbol of heroism, it has no equal in American life. Therefore, we dedicate this monument to the courageous natives and residents of Delaware who have given their all so that we, the living, can enjoy the freedoms they endowed to us.
