"The fountain incorporates lines inscribed in slate from a much-loved Shakespeare sonnet – the words are particularly appropriate to both our esteemed monarch and the timeless beauty of Clovelly, which was once owned by Queen Matilda of England:

Thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall death brag thou wanderest in his shade,
When in eternal lines thou growest.

There are three tableaux on the sides of the fountain; one of Clovelly herring and two of much loved Clovelly scenes; the Harbour and Temple Bar (the cottage that straddles the village street). These and the inscribed Shakespeare lines have been carved by the Penzance based sculptor, Joe Hemming. "
