The town of Webster was laid out in 1830 about 15 miles SW of Potosi. It was later purchased by the Palmer Lead Company and the name was changed to "Palmer". This was about 1875. This area is the home of "The Palmer Ghost". The "Ghost" is said to be a woman who passed circa 1850. The was a large amount of activity during the Civil War. A Union soldiers grave lies along side Hwy Z, buried where he fell.In the early 1900s this was the home of Pearl Pollard Curran, author, best known for the Patience Worth Novels

From B.B. Cannons journal of the early migration of Cherokees from Georgia to Oklahoma, he wrote:
Nov. 28 [1837] Moved detachment two miles to a spring and schoolhouse. Obtained permission for as many of the sick to occupy the schoolhouse as could do so...sickness increasing.

"Halted at spring and school house..." could be the today's ghost town of "Palmer". Spring is still there and school house was just up the hill. Church is still active, store and homes gone.
