Romanesque Church of St. Bartholomew (Kostel Sv. Bartolomeje), filial church of Vlašim Roman Catholic parish, belongs among the most beautiful and also the oldest ecclesiastic monuments in Bohemia.
Church of St. Bartholomew, located in a small village Kondrac situated 4 km S of county town Vlašim, is ancient Romanesque structure erected in the 12th century. Church's nave and two unusual cylindrical towers are original Romanesque core of the building.
The nave was extended and new vestry was added in Gothoc style in 1360. Church fell into disrepair during Hussite wars (1st half of the 15th century). Original Romanesque-Gothic look was reshaped in 1735 during Baroque reconstruction, when front facade was changed, Windows enlarged and choir was added. Later was erected wooden belfry between stone towers, but it was eventually destroyed by fire in 1918. Church was then reconstructed several times abd nowadays represents one of the most valuable examples of Romanesque architecture in Bohemia. Inside church You can find remnants of Romanesque frescoes.
