[GER] Der westliche Teil des Bahnhofs am 1. Juni 1899 mit den Wartesälen der 3’ten und 4’ten Klasse in Betrieb genommen. Am 20. Januar 1900 wurden der Mittelbau und der östliche Teil des Bahnhofs mit den Wartesälen der 1’ten und 2’ten Klasse dem Verkehr übergeben. 1907 wurden die Bauarbeiten fortgesetzt und 1911 konnte die Inbetriebnahme der letzten Gleise abgeschlossen werden.

Der Kieler Hauptbahnhof ist ein Kopf- oder auch Sackbahnhof, bei dem die Gleise im Bahnhof enden und somit alle Züge nur an einer Seite hinein- und in umgekehrter Fahrtrichtung wieder herausfahren müssen.
