This is one of two homemade tombstones I found at Spencer Cemetery, a pioneer cemetery overlooking the John C. Boyle Reservoir to the south.

Located on a hillside overlooking John C. Boyle Reservoir is Spencer Cemetery, an old pioneer cemetery. This older cemetery contains very few headstones and probably contained many more at one time but they have either fallen victim to natural elements (because they were made of wood) or were vandalized. This cemetery doesn't even show up on a topography map, which I found very surprising, since Spencer Creek was obviously named after the Spencer family who are buried here. I only found out about this cemetery from FindaGrave.com here and decided to check this old cemetery out for myself.

I found a concrete tombstone for Kittie B. Ritter with her named inscribed by hand. It stands out amongst the terrain and the only tombstone within a 15 foot square area. Her obit page on FindaGrave.com has a death certificate which lists her cause of death on Oct. 5, 1907 from a heart attack from complications from Typhoid Fever.

There looks to have been some upkeep on this cemetery by volunteers or family members and I also noticed a newer grave as well as a pet cemetery located just outside the perimeter fence. FindAGrave.com mentions 19 internments here but I counted less than a dozen.
