[FR] Sa construction, interrompue par la Première Guerre mondiale, ne reprend qu'en 1919. Finalement, elle est inaugurée le 19 novembre 1922.
Le bâtiment fait face à une vaste esplanade depuis laquelle part un large boulevard bordé d'arbres, la reliant à la ville.
La gare, richement décorée, rappelle l'architecture de La Rochelle, et notamment celle de la Grosse Horloge. Le hall des voyageurs est orné de grandes mosaïques, tandis que les parements sont en pierre. Sa façade est décorée de nombreuses gravures s'inspirant de la faune marine. Les quais sont intégralement couverts par une grande verrière.
[EN] The station, richly decorated, recalls the architecture of La Rochelle, notably that of the Grosse Horloge. The passenger hall is decorated with large mosaics, while the walls are of stone. The facade is decorated with numerous engravings taking inspiration from marine animals. The platforms are completely covered by a glass roof.
