Poppies
As a long standing tradition in Canada, the poppy symbolizes honor and respect for all Veterans who served in the Canadian Armed Services.
The mural shows two large poppies with a partial passage from the poem, "In Flanders Fields" by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae.
The poem was inspired after McCrae presided over the burial of a friend and fellow soldier during the First World War. The poem was first published in 1915.
Also at this location is a large cenotaph honoring Veterans from WWI, WWII and Korea. Several plaques are on the other side of the mural.
