"Ground Zero" is a wood carved sculptural grouping that recreates the famous Thomas Franklin photograph of three firefighters raising a flag over Ground Zero in the aftermath of the 9/11 attack on the World trade center in New York City. The life-size statues dressed in full firefighter gear were carved by Richard Kron out of white oak. Steel beams and marble tile from the rubble of the World Trade Center augment the design.

All three of the firefighters are still employed by the New York City Fire Department. They are private citizen who wish that their privacy be honored. However, the New York Fire Department has issued a general update of their status:

George Johnson has also worked for the FDNY for more than 20 years and was recently promoted to Battalion Chief in Brooklyn.

Daniel McWilliams is currently a lieutenant with Battalion 37 in Brooklyn. He has worked with the FDNY for more than 20 years and lives on Long Island.

William Eisengrein is a firefighter working out of Rescue 2 in Brooklyn. He has been with the FDNY for more than 25 years.
