William Henry Harrison Crosier was born in Skaneateles, New York on May 5, 1844. He enlisted into the 149th New York Infantry and served in Company G as a sergeant during the Civil War under General William T. Sherman. On July 20, 1864 for his actions at the Battle of Peachtree Creek, GA he was awarded the Medal of Honor. He died on March 14, 1903.

In July 1864, during his march through Georgia, Union General William T. Sherman had split his army. The Army of the Cumberland was to advance directly towards Atlanta, while the Army of the Ohio and the Army of the Tennessee moved several miles east. To achieve their mission, the Army of the Cumberland would need to cross Peachtree Creek where they would be vulnerable to Confederate forces. On July 20, 1864 Confederate forces launched an attack. The Union lines had bent but were not broken. There were 1,900 Union and 2,500 on the Confederate casualties.

On January 12, 1892 Sgt. William Henry Harrison Crozier was awarded the Medal of Honor. His citation reads:

The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant William Henry Harrison Crosier, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 20 July 1864, while serving with Company G, 149th New York Infantry, in action at Peach Tree Creek, Georgia. Severely wounded and ambushed by the enemy, Sergeant Crosier stripped the colors from the staff and brought them back into the line.
