Church of the Elevation of Holy Cross (Kostel Povýšení Sv. Kríže), nowadays belonging the the Orthodox community in Teplice, is the oldest preserved ecclesiastic buildingn in this North Bohemian spa town.
Church of the Elevation of Holy Cross, the older of the two churches located in Zámecké námestí (Chateau Square), is a neo-Gothic structure directly connected to the Teplice Chateau. Although it received its current appearance in the end of the 18th century, the original late-Gothic church had been built earlier, in 1549-1568, by the Teplice demesne owner Volf of Vresovice. For the construction of the tower were used ashlar stones from Romanesque basilica of abolished Teplice convent. The tomb of Lords of Vresovice You can find in the church's crypt. In the 17th century, the newly-added St. Anthony's Chapel extended the building towards the square. The church was completely reshaped in 1799 in neo-Gothic style and became one of the first examples of "Romantic-Gothic" architecture in Czech lands. Since 1950, it has served as an Orthodox Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The church interior may be seen only on Sundays during regular services. Their schedule is placed on the church notice-board.
