The Cape Providence is one of a fleet of ten 47-foot Search and Rescue boats operated on the Great Lakes by the Canadian Coast Guard. The boat is operated by a crew of 4, a CO, Chief Engineer and 2 Deck Hands.
Unlike their US brethren, the CCG are civilian, and fall under the auspices of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. The CCG does however work closely with Canadian Military, Canadian Border Security Agency and RCMP authorities, as well as the USCG.
