When the Hot Shot firefighters were dispatched to Glenwood Springs in 1994 to fight what became known as the Storm King Mountain Fire, 14 firefighters lost their life when the fire flared and the terrian was to steep to escape. Glenwood Springs promised to honor their sacrifice and has upheld that promised with several memorials (see (visit link)
and (visit link) ) as well as scholarships and yearly remembrances.
