This World War I doughboy is cast in bronze. He is holding his rifle with bayonet fixed in front of him with both hands. He wears a helmet with the chin strap fastened. His collar is open and he wears his gas mask around his neck. His shirt sleeves are rolled up to his elbows. The soldier stands atop a granite base that is adorned with bronze inscription plaques listing the names of those from MA that served. The plaque on the front of the monument reads:
THIS MONUMENT RECORDS THE DEVOTION OF THE SONS OF PROVINCETOWN WHO GAVE THEIR SERVICE TO THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WORLD WAR 1917-1918 IN THE HOUR OF NEED. THEY MADE THE SUPREME GIFT OF THEMSELVES, GOING TO MEET TOIL, PRIVATION, SUFFERING AND DEATH WITH STEADY COURAGE. THOSE WHO RETURNED AND THOSE WHO FELL HAVE GIVEN THIS AND FUTURE GENERATIONS OF PROVINCETOWN THE EXAMPLE OF NOBLE ACHIEVEMENT AND WILLING SACRIFICE.
