This fish ladder is located on the Colwood side of Mill Stream, at the foot of Gamble Park. It's purpose is to allow fish to bypass the 4-metre-tall waterfall beside it. Approval to construct the concrete fish ladder was granted in 2003 and it was built soon after. It consists of four intermediate pools, with slots in the inlets/outlets where sluice gates can be inserted to block the flow of water. About 5 metres upstream of the ladder is a single concrete wall which acts to create an additional pool.
Mill Stream is home to a resident population of cutthroat trout. With the construction of the fish ladders on Mill Stream, a small population of 150 coho salmon now spawn in the waterway.
