This marker is located at the historic Brunswick County Courthouse complex in Lawrenceville, Virginia, the county seat. This memorial was originally constructed to honor the war dead from Brunswick County from World War I through the Korean War. Vietnam was added later as you can see from the inscription photos.
On the left side the first three wars are inscribed and a biblical passage, John 15:13:
GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN
THIS, THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS
LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS.
Regretably, this inscription probably wouldn't be permitted today on a memorial on public property.
The right side of the memorial honors the men of the county who gave their lives to protect our freedom. "Vietnam" was added here later.
The monument is undated, and I can learn no information about the specific date of its installation. I am using 1955 as a best guess.
