The square - Independence square or, in Russian, Plošca Niezaliežnasci - is he heart of Belarus State. All important government buildings are located here and it features the monumental Soviet style, like a small scale Red Square of Moscow.
The fountain is located on the center of the square, a pedestrian area with access through underground passages. The fountain surrounds a glass cupola and the decoration is surprisingly simple: a sculpture with three birds and a coat-of-arms. Everything else is just about the water jets.
