As described by the National Geodetic Survey in 1996:
"IN AUSTIN, AT THE INTERSECTION OF SHOAL CREEK BOULEVARD AND WEST 34TH STREET, IN TOP OF AND 0.8 M (2.6 FT) NORTHEAST OF THE SOUTHWEST END OF THE SOUTHEAST CONCRETE ABUTMENT OF THE STREET BRIDGE SPANNING SHOAL CREEK, 11.9 M (39.0 FT) WEST OF THE BOULEVARD CENTER, 7.4 M (24.3 FT) SOUTHWEST OF THE STREET CENTERLINE, AND 0.2 M (0.7 FT) ABOVE THE LEVEL OF THE STREET.."
The NGS description is quite accurate and should definitely assist future seekers in finding this benchmark -- alternatively, please see one of the gallery images where the benchmark has been "highlighted" within a pink oval for ease of reference..
The NGS' 1996 coordinates, however, are a little off (as is to be expected, it happens all the time with older benchmarks). The NGS reports it at "N 30 18.267 W 097 44.933" which points to the bank of Shoal Creek below and ~70 feet away from the benchmark in question. The actual coords -- as measured within 10' accuracy and 20+ reading averages -- are "N 30 18.276 W 097 44.924".
Also, a minor clarification (for what it's worth): the NGS reports this benchmark as a "Vertical Control Disk", when it is actual engraving states "Vertical Control Mark".
