"José Sócrates Carvalho Pinto de Sousa (Vilar de Maçada, Alijó, 6 de Setembro de 1957) é um político português.

Foi secretário-geral do Partido Socialista, de Setembro de 2004 a Julho de 2011 e Primeiro-ministro de Portugal de 12 de Março de 2005 a 21 de Junho de 2011. Além desses postos, José Sócrates foi secretário de estado-adjunto do Ministério do Ambiente e Ministro do Ambiente e do Ordenamento do Território no governo de António Guterres, e um dos organizadores do campeonato de futebol UEFA Euro 2004 em Portugal.

José Sócrates é licenciado em Engenharia Civil pela Universidade Independente1 e em 2013 concluiu um mestrado em Ciência Política na Escola Doutoral do Instituto de Estudos Políticos de Paris, no qual foi o melhor aluno na variante de Teoria Política."

THE PERSON
"José Sócrates Carvalho Pinto de Sousa (born 6 September 1957), commonly known as José Sócrates, is a Portuguese politician who was the Prime Minister of Portugal from 12 March 2005 to 21 June 2011.

For the second half of 2007, he acted as the President-in-Office of the Council of the European Union. In addition to these posts, José Sócrates was Portugal's Minister for Youth and Sports and one of the organisers of the UEFA Euro 2004 football championship in Portugal, as well as being a former Environment Minister in the governments of António Guterres.

On 23 March 2011, he submitted his resignation to the president after parliament rejected his government's austerity measures in a vote, leading to the Portuguese legislative election of 2011. After losing the election, held on 5 June 2011, he resigned as Secretary-General of the Socialist Party."
