As described by the National Geodetic Survey in 1980:
"IN NEW BRAUNFELS, AT THE INTERSECTION OF NORTH SEGUIN STREET AND EAST SAN ANTONIO STREET, ON THE TOP CENTER OF THE SOUTHEAST STONE STEP AT THE SOUTH ENTRANCE OF THE COMAL COUNTY COURTHOUSE (BUILT IN 1898), 11.9 METERS (39.0 FT) NORTH OF THE NORTH CURB OF SEGUIN STREET, 10.6 METERS (34.8 FT) WEST OF THE WEST CURB OF SAN ANTONIO STREET. THE MARK IS 1.2 M ABOVE THE SIDEWALK."
The NGS description is pretty accurate and should definitely assist future seekers in finding this benchmark -- alternatively, one can use the gallery images (including one where the benchmark has been "highlighted" with a pink oval for ease of reference).
The NGS' 1980 coordinates, however, are pretty well off (as is to be expected, it happens all the time with older benchmarks). The NGS reports it at "N 29 42.183 W 098 07.483" which points to the center of a nearby plaza across the street, not the benchmark in question. The actual coords -- as measured within 10' accuracy and 20+ reading averages -- are "N 29 42.203 W 98 07.494".
Also, please note that the NGS reports this benchmark as a "Bench Mark Disk", when it is actually a "Vertical Control Mark" (as written on the actual disk).
