This carving of a skier is located at the main street in the center of Todtnau. The skier is equipped in the style of the 1890s; note that they used only one ski pole then, and it was held like a paddle.

The carving commemorates the founding of Germany's first skiing club in Todtnau in 1891. The base has the inscruption:
"Den Gründern des ersten deutschen Skiclubs (to the founders of the first German skiing club), Ski Club Todtnau 1891:
Dr. Tholus, Fritz Breuer, Oskar Faller, Carl Thoma II, Carl Thoma III, Carl Schlimbach, Rudolf Thoma."

Next to the carving there is a wooden structure with dates of notable events of the club history. The club still exists, and occasionally Todtnau is the location of national and international competitions.
