BM0900 - AUSTIN CAP DOME LIBERTY BASE - Austin, TX - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

As described by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey in 1935:
"THIS INTERSECTION STATION IS THE CENTER OF THE BASE OF THE STATUE OF LIBERTY ON TOP OF THE DOME OF THE TEXAS STATE CAPITOL. THE CAPITOL IS A RED, STONE BUILDING AND HAS A ROUND TOWER AT THE CENTER OF THE TOP. TOWER HAS COLONNADE OF 24 COLUMNS NEAR THE BASE. THE TOP OF THE TOWER IS A DOME WITH HORIZONTAL BANDS AND 24 RADIAL RIBS. THERE ARE SMALL WINDOWS NEAR THE BASE OF DOME BETWEEN RIBS. DOME IS SURMOUNTED BY AN OCTAGONAL CUPOLA AND THE CUPOLA IS SURMOUNTED BY A STATUE OF LIBERTY. THE STATUE IS ABOUT 250 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND. IT IS THE HIGHEST AND MOST PROMINENT OBJECT IN AUSTIN. THE BUILDING WAS ERECTED IN 1885. THE CAPITOL IS IN THE CENTER OF AUSTIN ON A PROMINENT HILL. IT IS ON LINE WITH CONGRESS AVENUE (THE MAIN STREET OF TOWN) BETWEEN 12TH STREET AND 13TH STREET."

* For starters, the statue on top of the dome of the Texas State Capitol is called "Goddess of Liberty", not "Statue of Liberty" (which is the one in New York City).

* Also, the original statue was taken down and replaced with a replica in 1986. However, the base on top of the dome is the same as the one that was there prior to the replacement; therefore, the old/original benchmark *is* actually still there.
