The town of Carstairs was incorporated in 1903 and the cemetery came into being at about the same time. There are now over 1,100 interments in the cemetery.
Relatively recently the Carstairs Lions Club took it upon themselves to build and erect this nice steel arch for the cemetery's main entrance. It consists of a pair of steel poles supporting a double steel pipe arch, within which is the name in flat steel lettering, "Carstairs Cemetery", with some wrought iron embellishments added. High up on each of the supporting poles a Lions plaque has been mounted. Included in the structure are a pair of wrought iron gates.
