This memorial to those lost on September 11, 2001, was commissioned by prominent Port Jefferson citizen George Wallis in June,2002, on land he owns on the corner of Routes 112 and 25A, or East Broadway and Wall Streets. There is a small brick plaza with landscaping and a bench with a nearby waterfall fountain and another bronze statue in memory of a young mother. It is across the street from the Port Jefferson-Bridgeport, CT, Ferry, with the Steamboat Restaurant as a backdrop.
IN ALL OUR DAYS
WE HAVE NEVER SEEN
A DAY LIKE THIS
9.11.01
IN MEMORY OF
ALL THOSE LOST
The memorial itself is a polished black seven-foot granite column topped by a six-foot gold leaf covered eagle. There is just a simple inscription on the granite column.
