To celebrate their 100th year in existence the Rotarians built this small gazebo in Rotary Park. They were, of course, responsible for the park itself, a small green space adorned with benches and picnic tables, as well as an Ishidoro, a Japanese stone lantern, given to the City of Trail by their sister city, Tsukui, Japan. The Trail Rotary Club was chartered on April 20, 1927. Rotary Park opened in 2000 and the gazebo itself was completed in 2003.

Now 1.2 million strong, the Rotary Club was formed in Chicago by Paul P. Harris, a Chicago attorney on 23 February 1905. It was formed as " a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.".

In 2005 Rotary Clubs the world over created centennial projects for their towns and cities, projects ranging from simple plaques to large public buildings and stadia. In most every centre with a Rotary presence, a Rotary Centennial project will be found somewhere.
