This marker, affixed to a 40 feet obelisk, commemorates the location of Fort La Présentation, the first building erected where the City of Ogdensburg now Stands.

Text of the marker
This monument marks the site of FORT LA PRÉSENTATION
Erected in 1749 by
ABBÉ FRANCOIS PIQUET
For the protection of his Mission among
the Indians of the First Nations.

The fort was occupied in 1760 by the British and evacuated by them June 1st 1796 under the provisions of the Jay Treaty.

It was the first building erected where now stands the City of Ogdensburg.
