These topiaries are some of the streetside plantings which the City of Castlegar employed in order to win their class in the 2014 Communities in Bloom competition.

There are five of these topiaries along the west side of Columbia Avenue, just south of its intersection with 13th Avenue. Four are helices and one is in the shape of stacked spheres. They are set in beds with other floral arrangements.

We're not saying that the topiaries put them over the top, but Castlegar won the International Challenge for cities of 5,000 to 9,000 population for the first time this year. This competition is open to cities worldwide.
