The Alliance Manufacturing Company began in 1923 in Alliance. During WWII they made many items for the war. In 1954 they started making garage door openers and called it the Genie. It was the first mass produced radio controlled garage door opener. In 1983 they started producing shop vacs. and they changed the company name to Genie Home Products. In 1994 the company was bought by The Overhead Door Corp. and continued to make the Genie products. In 2011 they moved the operation to Hope, Ohio and the plant was closed.
